Background
The reconstruction algorithm is the core of clinical EIT, but most commercial devices are closed systems, making it hard for researchers to intervene at the hardware level. Academic research urgently needs an open hardware platform for algorithm comparison, model building and data acquisition.
Measurement challenges
- Algorithm research needs raw boundary voltage / current data export, not just imaging results
- Different algorithms (LBP, Tikhonov, deep learning, etc.) have differing demands on the acquisition scheme
- Clinical data acquisition must meet ethics and privacy requirements
Our solution
The TJUERT multi-plane 3D resistance tomography system provides a fully open algorithm interface: raw measurements can be exported to MATLAB / Python / Excel; excitation scheme, electrode order and acquisition rate are all parameterisable; the hardware platform is decoupled from the algorithm layer.
Results
- Multiple research groups have completed in-house algorithm validation and published papers on the TJUERT platform
- The platform can support contract research and doctoral-thesis work
- The same hardware can serve comparison studies across multiple algorithm branches at once
