A new generation of electrical tomography software is officially released
Tianjin Youyi Technology has launched a new generation of electrical tomography acquisition and real-time reconstruction software, eTomography Pro. With AI-assisted development we completely rebuilt the previous software — using a more modern architecture to finish in a few weeks what used to take months — integrating multiple electrical tomography modalities, ultra-high-speed acquisition, real-time reconstruction and publication-grade visualisation into a single application. It marks a major upgrade of our ECT/ERT/EIT software platform.
AI is not just a tool for writing code; it let us rapidly trial multiple reconstruction algorithms, interface layouts and hardware protocols while maintaining 2000 fps real-time performance, so we could devote more effort to imaging quality and user experience itself.
One software, four modalities
In the past, different modalities often each used and maintained their own software. eTomography Pro fully implements four electrical tomography modalities under a unified architecture:
- Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) — medical / biomedical imaging such as lung-ventilation monitoring and tissue imaging
- Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) — multiphase flow and mixing-process visualisation
- Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) — process imaging of oil-gas, solid particles, etc.
- Wire-Mesh Sensor (WMS) — high-resolution flow-regime measurement
The same software switches between sensor configurations at run time — no reinstall, no relearning the interface.
Core capabilities
- Ultra-high data throughput — hardware acquisition holds a steady 2000 fps with no frame loss; reconstruction reaches 800–1700 fps on CPU (algorithm dependent), with multi-threaded acquisition / reconstruction / display fully decoupled and non-blocking.
- Multiple real-time reconstruction algorithms — five built-in algorithms: Tikhonov regularisation, truncated SVD, Gauss-Newton, Total Variation (sparse edge prior) and Landweber; parameter changes take effect on the next frame, making algorithm comparison and selection easy.
- From 2D to Full3D — supports single-plane (2D), multi-plane 2.5D and full three-dimensional (Full3D) imaging; four main view layouts (waterfall / mesh / projection slice / orthogonal three-view) switch with one click.
- Full recording and playback — HDF5 recording with seamless automatic segmentation for long sessions; playback supports variable speed, looping and frame/time seeking, so the same raw data can be reviewed repeatedly with different reconstruction parameters.
- Smart measurement-system management — automatic device discovery, subnet-scan connection, hardware self-test and three-step hardware calibration; calibrations and presets are saved per sensor for easy sharing of working points across a team.
- One-click export of publication figures — reconstructed images, multi-plane results, measurement curves, colour bars, slice views and more export at once as high-standard PNGs, meeting the figure requirements of high-level papers.
Use cases
eTomography Pro suits industrial process tomography (multiphase-flow monitoring, in-reactor imaging), medical and biomedical imaging research, teaching and algorithm validation at universities and institutes, and the development and prototype evaluation of customer-customised sensors.
